FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Community Care Day launches United Way Campaign

More than 75 volunteers working to complete projects at 5 sites

Chillicothe, OH (September 16, 2011)

“Give. Advocate. Volunteer.” It’s more than a slogan for United Way of Ross County. It’s a call to action.  The “volunteer” call was made to local employers and others who are supporting Community Care Day today with volunteers, materials, supplies, and other assistance for projects at four United Way partner agencies and the city park.

Among more than 75 volunteers who will engage in cleaning, painting, landscaping, remodeling and repair projects are employees from Fluor B&W, Glatfelter, Horizon, UPS, Fifth Third Bank, PPG, and OU-C, along with students and staff from Pickaway-Ross Career & Technology Center. They will be working Friday at Big Brothers Big Sisters, Child Protection Center, Girl Scout Camp Tea Qui Mead, Middleground Youth Center and in Yoctangee Park.  Kenworth Truck Company is providing commemorative t-shirts and Fluor is hosting lunch for the volunteers.

“Community Care Day” is a great opportunity to bring together our friends and neighbors to work on projects that otherwise could not be done at this time because of staffing and financial constraints.

Now, our agencies can devote their time and money to improving lives and strengthening our community without worrying about needed repairs, remodeling and other chores,” said Mary Elsass, executive director, United Way of Ross County.

The event also kicks off the 2011 United Way Community Campaign that will reach out to local businesses and residents in efforts to raise $625,000 to support programs provided by 17 partner agencies and other communitywide initiatives convened, managed or supported by United Way.

Campaign Co-chairs Miriam King and Katherine Szczesniak will be working with volunteers in five divisions chaired by: Linda Madison, Angela Speakman and Natalie Rawlings – Manufacturing; Dave Huggins and Jill Haller – Retail & Services; Ashley Smith – Public Service; Christa Baker and Shannon Tucker – Professional; Peggy Riggin and Julie Manning – Community.
