FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

United Way appeals to your appetite

Community is encouraged to "Dine United"!

Chillicothe, OH (September 15, 2009) When times are challenging, new appeals must be made, says Jan Nusbaum, resource coordinator for United Way of Ross County. "Not everyone can give us a big check, but everyone can help by simply doing what they do every day - eating," she explains.

Prior to its public launch later this month, the annual United Way Campaign is seeking support for a new fundraising effort this year - "LIVE UNITED, dine united." Beginning Monday and continuing through October 31, various local restaurants are supporting the effort by donating a portion of one day's sales to United Way. Some will contribute a specific amount for each purchase of a selected menu item. Others are donating a percentage of total sales for the day.

Recognizing the impact of the lingering economic downturn, campaign officials are looking for new donors and new events this year to supplement traditional gifts and resources. Just as donors are challenged by the economy, the people served by United Way funded programs and agencies are drastically affected by job layoffs and losses, higher costs and growing debt, Nusbaum said

"We are thrilled with the positive response from our local restaurant owners, and grateful for their generous support," Nusbaum remarked. In all, 16 local restaurants are participating:

  • Sept. 21: Carl's Townhouse
  • Sept. 22: Frisch's
  • Sept. 23: Crispie Creme
  • Sept. 24: Dock at Water
  • Sept. 25: Cozy Inn
  • Sept. 28: Casa Del Taco (2 locations)
  • Sept. 29: Grinders Coffee & Cafe
  • Sept. 30: Papa John's Pizza
  • Oct. 5: Dairy Queen (2 locations)
  • Oct. 6:Subway (4 locations)
  • Oct. 14: Dakota's
  • Oct. 19: Old Canal Smoke House
  • Oct. 21: Roosters
  • Oct. 25: Schlegel's Coffee House
  • Oct. 27: Sumburger
  • Oct. 31: McDonald's (4 locations)
